Nepalese Avalokiteshvara NE61
Votive or architectural copper-alloy repoussé plaque depicting four-armed Avalokitesvara (Chaturbhuja Avalokitesvara), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. He stands frontally within a stylized aureole, wearing a jeweled crown and ornaments, with flowing garments rendered in low relief. He holds a lotus in the lower right hand, symbol of purity and awakening. Mounting holes indicate the piece was intended for shrine or architectural use. Surface wear and patina consistent with age and devotional handling. It is fixed on a poplar burl base.
Nepal or Tibet.
Circa 13th century.
11.5 mm high x 10 cm wide. Its stand is 18.5 cm high.
