These paintings are all traditional religious paintings from churches or temples. Modern style painting did not come to Asia before the first colonialists. Previously artists represented only scenes of chivalry and war (ex: the miniatures of Rajasthan), and mostly Gods and deities, paradises or hells, kings and wealthy noblemen, mostly always sponsored by these last groups of people…
We reckon it is difficult to appreciate paintings, such as these very detailed ones, in the small format presented in these pages. But, upon request, we will send them in a larger format.
